He hears the annoucer say that in ten seconds he wants everyone to look outside and see if they can see Montag. Just before they get to ten, Montag jumps into the river. He floats downstream. He has lost the hound. He floats downriver untill his feet hit land. He walks and finds the railroad which Faber told him to follow. He sees some homeless guys and they invite him to join them. They are all of professers who have different books memorized. They are all waiting untill they can come back and write down the books. They turn on a small TV and see that they have framed another man for the murder of Captian Beatty. They start walking but hear some jets overhead and see that they have dropped bombs on the city and they know that the war that just started has ended with the destruction of the city. The guys walk toward the city to help and see what all has happened. Montag continues down the railroads tracks hoping that he will eventually meet up with Faber in St. Louis.

Response: I am really happy that Montag got away. He didn't do anything wrong. Captian Beatty was asking for it. I hope that Montag meets up with Faber and they can get some books printed. I think that life would have been a lot better if they would have allowed books.

Fahrenheit 451 Pages 83 to 116

Summary: Montag talks to Mr. Faber for awhile discussing what they are going to do to get the books back. Faber gives Montag and ear piece so they can talk to each other without being together. Faber gives it to him because he is too afraid to go with him. Montag goes home and freaks on his wife and her friends. He reads them poetry and they get mad and leave. Montag then goes to work and gives Beatty a book. They go on a call and it is his house. When they get there Mildred runs out of the house with a suitcase, gets in her car, and leaves. Montag can't believe it. He thinks about running but he knows that the dog is around and will get him.

Response: I can't believe that Mildred called Montag in. It was really stupid, because Montag was doing the right thing by saving books. She was stupid to just leave him like that. What are they going to do to get the books back?

Fahrenheit 451 Pages 53 - 82

Summary: Montag doesn't feel very good. He ants his wife to call in sick for him. While they are talking Captain Beatty pulls up to their house. He wants to talk to Montag. He knows that Montag wants to call in sick. He lestures Montag for awhile about what they do and why they do it. After he leaves Montag shows Mildred all of the books he has taken. She freaks out and tries to burn them, but Montag won't let her. He wants to try to read them but he doesn't know how to. So he calls up a man that he met in the park a long time ago. Mr. Fiber was an English teacher before he was forced to quit his job. Montag calls him and asks him a question about books and Fiber hangs up. Montag takes a bible over to his house and asks him about it.

Response: I think it is good than Montag realizes that burning books is bad. It is good for him to want to learn how to read books. I hope that he doesn't get into truble because he is doing the right thing. Why would they burn books?

He starts to question what they are doing as firemen. The fire chief then shows him a handbook that says that Benjamin Franklin was the first firemen and that they are supposed to burn burn the house down, only if it has books in it. Montag thinks that they should be putting fires out instead of starting them.

Response: I think that Montag is right about putting fires out. I don't understand why they burn books and start fires. I would probably get upset with my wife to if she didn't care about anything I did. All she does is watch tv all day. Why does the firefighter handbook say that Benjamin Franklin was the first firefighter?

Montag isn't happy and doesn't know why. he feels different about things now that he has met Clarisse.

He says that he might be going to school next fall and he thinks he will apply himself. He says that he wishes that he didn't tell the story because when he does, he misses the people in the story.

Response: It is very good that he finally went to a place that can help him. It defiantly saved his life. I hope that he will get his life back on track and go back to school.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 25

Summary: He goes to Grand Central Station to get some sleep and get his bags. He sleeps there until it starts to get busy and he can't put his feet up anymore. He walks around and decides to go to Phoebe's school to get her a note telling her to see him during her lunch so he can give her back her money and say goodbye. He hands the note to the secretary and makes up a story so she will give it to her without reading it. He talks to her for awhile to kill time then walks around the school. He sees some swear words written on the wall and gets mad. He goes to the spot where he told her to meet him and waits for her to come. She is late when she finally shows up and she is carrying a suitcase. She says that she is going with Holden. When he tells her no she gets mad and won't talk to him. He tells her that he isn't going anywhere and that he will take her to the zoo if she will talk to him again. When they walk to the zoo she walks on the other side of the street. As they get to the zoo the more time they spend there the closer she gets to Holden. They come upon a carousel and Phoebe wants to ride it. So Holden buys her a ticket and watches her ride it. He is so happy he thinks that he might cry.

Response: It is a good that he wants to talk to Phoebe before he goes because it tells me that he really cares for her and doesn't want to let her down. Deciding not to go was the best choice he has made since he left school. It shows that he feels a lot better when he feels like crying because he is so happy. He finally made the right choice and it is going to save his life.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 24

Summary: When Holden gets to Mr. Antolini's apartment it is a mess. They had a dinner party and there were dishes and glasses everywhere. Mrs. Antolini is making coffee for Holden. He can tell that Mr. Antolini is drunk and is still drinking. Mr. Antolini asks him about Pency and why he got kicked out. Holden says that it was to strict there. Mrs. Antolini broght out the coffee and that changed the subject. Mr. Antolini starts to lecture Holden and tells him that he feels his life is in a downfall. He writes something down on a piece of paper and gives it to Holden. Holden listens to what he has to say even though he is very tired and eventually yawns. Mr. Antolini then helps him make his bed and says goodnight. Holden goes to sleep but is suddnely woken up when he feels Mr. Antolini's hand on his forehead. He thinks that he is going to do something to him so he leaves the apartment in a hurry.

Response: It is good for Holden to listen to what Mr. Antolini has to say because he is someone who he looks up to and respects. I really hope that he didn't mean anything when he was "petting" Holden. I still think he should have stayed home. Where is he going to sleep at now?

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 23

Summary: Holden leaves Phoebe's room to call a Mr. Antolini, he was a teacher at a school that Holden went to. He asks him if he can stay at his house for the night. After Mr. Antolini says that he can Holden goes back into his sisters room. They dance for a few songs when they hear the door open. Their parents are home. Holden tries to fan out the smoke and hides in the closet. His mom comes in to tuck Phoebe in. She smells the smoke and asks if Phoebe was smoking. Phoebe says that she only took one puff just to try it. Her mom then tucks her in and leaves the room. Holden comes out of the closet a few minutes later. He tells Phoebe that he is leaving town to go to Colorado. She gives him the rest of her Christmas money and he gives her his red hunting hat. Holden then sneaks back out of the house.

Response: Holden should just stay at home instead of going to Mr. Antolini's house. He needs to be home where Phoebe and his parents are so he can't get himself into any more trouble. His plan ot go to Colorado is really bad. Hitchhiking all the way out there is very dangerous and how would he get to the ranch he says he could work on? Staying home is the best thing for him to do.

New Character List: Mr. Antolini - He was a teacher at a school that Holden went to. He is married and works for NYU now.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 22

Summary: Holden finally gets Phoebe to listen to him. He tells her why he got kicked out and all of the things he didn't like about the school. She tells him that he hates everything and to name something he likes. All he can think about for awhile was the two nuns he met then he says he likes Allie. Phoebe says that that doesn't count because he is dead. She asks him what he wants to do with his life and he says that he wants to be a catcher in the rye. The only adult in a field of rye where little kids are playing. He would stand by a cliff and catch them before they fell off.

Response: Holden has already changed a lot. He is in a much better mood. Talking to Phoebe was a really good idea. The catcher in the rye idea is something that can't happen, it seems more like a dream than a reality. At least he wants to do something that would help others with his life.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 21

Summary: Holden takes the elevator to his apartment. He is lucky that the normal elevator operator is not there so he won't tell his parents that he was home. He opens the door to the apartment very carefully and tiptoes to Phoebe's room. When he gets there she is gone and he remembers that she likes to sleep in D. B.'s bed. So he goes to D. B.'s room and sees her sleeping there. He watches her sleep and says that children always look very peaceful when they sleep, and that adults never do. He looks at some of her school work and finally wakes her up. She is very happy to see him and starts rambling about a play she is in, a movie she went to, a movie D. B. is making, and a boy that is bullying her. She then figures out that Holden is home early and he must have gotten kicked out. She says that their parents aren't home and that dad is going to kill Holden. She says it over and over, and won't listen to Holden anymore. She covers her head with a pillow. Holden gets frustrated and leaves to get a cigarette.

Response: It is good that Holden finally went home. Phoebe will help him get in a better mood. He got really lucky that his parents are gone, even though it would be better for him if they caught him.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 20

Summary: Holden stays at the bar and gets very drunk. He go outside to a phone booth and calls up Sally. It is very late and her grandmother answers. He asks to speak to Sally, but her grandmother says she is asleep. Holden says that it is important so she gets her. Sally asks what he is doing calling so late. She know right away that he is drunk. He asks her if he can trim her tree on Christmas for her. She says he can and he asks her the same question two more times. Then she tells him to go to bed and hangs up. Holden went back into the bar and tries to sober up by dunking his head in the sink. As he leaves the bar he tries to make a date with the coat check girl and she tells him to get some sleep. He then walks to Central Park to see if the ducks are on the lagoon. While he is walking there he drops the record he bought for Phoebe. It shatters and he picks up the pieces and keeps them. He walks around the pond but doesn't find and ducks. He almost falls in once. He then sits on a bench and realizes he is freezing and his hair has frozen. He thinks he is getting pneumonia and will die. He even imagines his funeral. He says that he didn't go to Allie's funeral because he was in the hospital. He decides to sneak home and talk to Phoebe.

Response: Getting drunk was a very bad hing to do. I think he did it just so he wouldn't feel so bad. If he wasn't so drunk i don't think he would have gone to see the ducks. It is very bad that he starts to think about dying and his funeral. He needs to get some help before he hurts himself. I think it would be good if his parents caught him when he goes home.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 19

Summary: Old Luce shows up to the bar a few minutes late and tell Holden that he can't stay for very long. Holden starts asking him questions about sex which Luce refuses to answer. He keeps telling Holden he needs to grow up and stop acting immature. Luce is going to Columbia University and is dating and older Chinese women which drives Holden nuts. He continues to ask even more questions and eventually Luce tells him he needs to see a shrink. Holden remembers that Luce's dad is one so he asks if Luce ever went to see him for help. Luce doesn't want to answer the question and leaves shortly.

Response: It was good for Holden to talk to Luce even if it wasn't for long. It got him thinking about maybe talking to someone who could help him. It would have been a lot better for Holden if Luce would have stayed longer.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 18

Summary: He finally calls Jane but no one answers the phone so he hangs up. He still wants some company so he calls up an old friend named Carl Luce. He calls him up because he is very smart and Holden likes to talk to him. Luce says that he can meet him for a drink but not till ten so Holden goes to a movie to kill time. He doesn't like the movie at all and when it gets over he walk to the Wicker Bar to meet Luce.

New Character List: Carl Luce - He is 3 years older than Holden, graduated from Whooten, is very smart.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 17

Summary: At two he meets up with Sally and she is looking good. They take a cab to the theater and make out on the way. Sally really likes the show but Holden doesn't like it because he thinks that the actors are phonies. During intermission Sally sees another boy that she knows and goes to talk to him. This annoys Holden. After the show Sally wants to go ice skating so Holden takes her. When they get there they get skates and she changes into a short skirt to show off her body which Holden likes. They skated for awhile but they both weren't very good and Sally was ready to stop when Holden asked her if she wanted to get something to drink. While they were talking and drinking cokes Holden starts freaking out and yelling and whispering to Sally. He says that he wants to leave with her and go to Vermont or Maine. When she says no he yells at her and she starts crying. He tries to apologize but she won't let him. So he leaves without her.

Response: I think that the date was a total disaster. It didn't help him at all. It just made him and Sally mad. He acting worse. He freaked out for no reason at all. I think he needs to get home right away before he hurts himself.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 16

Summary: He goes for a walk to think about the nuns and how unselfish they are. While he is walking he thinks about Phoebe and how much he wants to talk to her. He remembers that there is a record he wants to buy for her. So he goes to a store and buys it for her. He remembers that she likes to go roller skating at the park so he goes there to look for her, but he doesn't see her and asks a girls if she has seen her. She says that she might be a museum because it is Saturday. Holden starts to go but remembers that if is Sunday and that she wouldn't be there. He has time to kill so he goes anyway. While he is walking there he thinks about the exhibits. When he finally gets there he gets very depressed for no reason and doesn't want to go in.

Response: It is good that he wants to see his sister. I think that she could get him out of his depression and get him feeling better. It isn't good that he can go from feeling better to feeling terrible so quickly. One minute he was fine and wanted to go to the museum and the next he said you couldn't pay him to go. Hopefully the date makes him feel better again.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 15

Summary: He checks out of the hotel and starts to think about his parents and how his dad hates when he loses things. He says that his mother isn't handling Allie's death very well and has been feeling sick for a long time. He worries about how she might take him getting kicked out of school again. He calls up Sally, a girl he knew from before and sets up a date with her. He then gets some breakfast at a little sandwhich shop. While he is eating two nuns come in and eat next to him. He starts talking to him and enjoys their company very much. He even gives them ten dollars. After they leave he feels bad that he only gave ten bucks and says that money just depresses people.

Response: I think it is a good thing that he set up a date with Jane. He needs to talk to someone. Getting to talk to those nuns was very good for him because they got his mind of Jane and being depressed. They really helped him out. Hopefully his date goes well with Jane and he will feel better about himself.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 14

Summary: Holden stays up for a little while longer smoking and thinking about Allie. He finally goes to sleep but is abruptly woken up by a knock on his door. He opens his door and sees the guy from the elevator with Sunny. He is demanding another five dollars from Holden. When Holden says no he comes in and pins him up against a wall while Sunny takes the money out of his wallet. He calls Maurice a moron and gets punched in the stomach. He lays on the floor for a while then goes to bed.

Response: Holden never should have gotten a striper. He should have known that only bad things were going to happen. That just shows how lonely he is, that it effects how he thinks. If he would have been thinking normal i highly doubt he would have gotten into such a bad mix up. I think he needs to get some sleep and hopefully he will feel better in the mourning.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 13

Summary: He was feeling so bad that he walked all 41 blocks back to the hotel. While he was walking he was thinking about the guy who stole his gloves and how he would confront him. When he gets back to the hotel he takes the elevator to his room. There is another man in the elevator who asks him if he wants a prostitute. He accepts a "throw" for five bucks and gets off the elevator. He walks around his room nervous about the girl who is coming. When she gets there he doesn't want to do anything except talk. The girl, Sunny, says that she got woken up to do this and doesn't want to talk. So she says that she is going to leave if they don't do anything. Holden pays her five buck and she leaves.

Response: This was the bad thing that I was talking about. He only got the girl for some company and when she didn't want to talk she left leaving him alone, again. Getting a prostitute was a very bad idea that he only did because of his loneliness.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 12

Summary: He takes a cab to a club that his brother used to go to a lot. He wants to see Ernie play the piano. He gets a crumby table that is behind a pole and when he listens to Ernie play he isn't impressed. He sees a girl named Lillian that used to go with his brother. He doesn't like her very much and is forced to leave when he tells her he has to go so he doesn't have to sit with then at their table.

Response: I think that he should have sat with them. He needs company to get his mind off of Jane. He needs to have company before he does something that he might regret.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 11

Summary: He is sitting in the lobby of the hotel and is thinking about the time he spent with Jane. He talks about how they got very close but never did anything physical, just held hands. He talks about how much fun he had with her. He brings up a time when he was playing checkers with her and she started crying when her mom's boyfriend came home and asked her if she had a cigarette. Holden sees that she is crying and starts kissing her to comfort her.

Response: I think that remembering all of these things isn't doing Holden any good. It is just reminding him about how good things were. Which makes him feel even more depressed and lonely now. I think that he should call her up so that he doesn't feel so bad. Talking to her has to cheer him up.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 10

Summary: He feels lonely so he goes to the Lavender Room at his hotel. It is a room where a band is playing and you can order drinks. While he is there he tries to order alcohol but the waiter doesn't give him any because he is too young. He is sitting next to three girls so he dances with them and eventually sits with them. After awhile they go to bed and he pays for their drinks. He goes out to the lobby and just sits there.

Response: I think Holden is very lonely and had a very good time with the girls even though he says he didn't. He can't Jane out of his mind and he isn't tired which is kinda strange because it is really late.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 9

Summary: Holden gets off the train and wants to call someone, but when he gets to the phone he realizes that he doesn't want to talk to any of the people he might call. He leaves the station and gets a cab. While he is riding in the cab he asks the driver if he knows where the dicks go in the winter, but the driver doesn't know. He checks into his hotel and sees a man dress up like a chick across the hotel courtyard. He then decides to call up this lady named Faith. He wants her to come over but she says that it is too late so he hangs up.

Response: I think that Holden should go home. He is very lonely and needs to talk to someone. He should talk to his parents or his sister who it seems he likes very much. I don't think alone time is a very good thing for him right now.

Character List:
Phoebe - Holden's little sister, who he likes a lot she is ten

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 8

Summary: He just left Pency and is riding a train to town. While he is on the train a lady comes on and sits next to him. She notices that he has a Pency Prep sticker and asks if he went there. She said that her son goes there to. Ernest Marrow was in a Holden's history class. Holden started to tell her a bunch of lies that he knew she wanted to hear about how good her son was at everything. He kinda liked her so he asked her to join him for a drink. When she says no she asks him what he is doing on the train and he lies and tells her he has a tumor and is having an operation.

Response: I think that he should be more careful about who he talks to because they could tell his parents what is going on and he might not get to spend some time alone. Its probably a bad thing that he can lie so well. It will probably come back to get him later.

Character List: Mrs. Marrow- Ernest's mom who Holden talks to on the bus, very nice lady

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 7

Summary: Holden goes into Ackley's room to get away from Stradlater. He talks to Ackley for a little while but Ackley says that he has to go to sleep because he is going to mass in the mourning. Once he was packed he left the dorm and Pency for good. He decided to go on a little vacation to NYC so his parents could cool down after they found out that he got kicked out of school.

Response: I think that a little vacation will be good for him. He seems really stressed out and the Jane thing really set him off. A few days to himself should be good for him.

Holden hits Stradlater in the face and Stradlater pins him down on the ground and tells him to be quiet. When Holden keeps on calling him a moron he punches him in the face. Holden got knocked out, when he woke up Stradlater told him to wash his face.

Response: If Stradler wanted his paper to be done a certain way he should ahve done it. He should have known better than to say he did stuff with Jane when he knew that Holden liked her. Holden was kinda asking to get hit when he kept on making fun of Stradlater.

He writes about his brother named Allie who had a baseball glove that he wrote peoms on so he wouldn't get bored playing baseball. Allie is dead so the glove means alot to Holden.

Response: I think it would be cool to go to a school where you could just take a bus and go to a movie, get some burgers and just hang out. I think that Allie's glove means a lot to Holden, that's why he wrote about it. It would be very though to lose a brother.

Character List:
Mal Brossard - good friend who is on the wrestling team

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 4

Summary: Stradlater is getting cleaned up to go on a date with a girl. He goes to the bathroom to shave and Holden follows him. Stradlater tells Holden that he is going out with a girl named Jane. Holden used to know Jane very well. Stradlater wants Holden to write a paper for him while he is on the date so he doesn't have to do it after.

Response: I think that Holden really likes Jane and is upset that Stradlater is going on a date with her. Holden should have gone to talk to her if he really liked her because she prolly would have wanted to see him again. I wouldn' t do the paper for Stradlater, if he needs to do the paper he should stay home and do it.

Character List:
Jane Gallagher - Girl that is going on a date with Stradler, Holden met her before and got to know her really well.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 3

He won't let Holden read his book and won't leave when Holden tells him to. Holden's roommate comes in which makes Ackley leave right away because he doesn't like Stradlater.

Response: I can see why not many people like Ackley, he seems like a slob who thinks he is better than everyone else. I wouldn't like him to come into my room whenever he wants to and have him move my stuff around.

Ackley - Lives in the dorm next to Holden's he is a slob
Stradlater - Holden's roommate

Holden starts to lie to him so he will stop lecturing him. Holden makes and excuse and leaves Mr. Spencer's house.

Response: This wasn't the first time he has been lectured by a teacher. He should listen to Mr. Spencer because he is really trying to help him. I think he will have a rough life if he continues to not care about anything.

Response: After reading the first chapter I think that Holden is a smart kid who doesn't care about the consequences of his actions. I think he means well but usually gets himself into trouble. This book is setting the stage for an interesting story.

Character List:
Holden - main character
Mr. Spencer - History teacher at Percy

Gaza

What is going on with the Gaza Strip? Who is to blame? What should the United States do about what is going on? Summarize the situation, Take a position on what is to be done, Defend your position.

The Israeli army invaded the Gaza Strip on Dec. 27th. I think that Hamas is to blame. I think that we should stay out of the situation because we have enough of our own problems to worry about. Basically Hamas was shooting missiles at Israel. Israel had enough of it so they invaded that Gaza Strip. I think that the situation will resolve itself before we have to get envolved. The UN is making measures to control the situation. Unless it gets more severe (Nuclear Missiles) I think the US should stay out of it. Hamas was asking for it and I think it was good for Israel to take a stand and say enough is enough.
