They turn on the TV and hear that they are releasing another hound. So he runs toward the river. On his way he puts a seashell in his ear to hear where they are looking for him at. He hears the annoucer say that in ten seconds he wants everyone to look outside and see if they can see Montag. Just before they get to ten, Montag jumps into the river. He floats downstream. He has lost the hound. He floats downriver untill his feet hit land. He walks and finds the railroad which Faber told him to follow. He sees some homeless guys and they invite him to join them. They are all of professers who have different books memorized. They are all waiting untill they can come back and write down the books. They turn on a small TV and see that they have framed another man for the murder of Captian Beatty. They start walking but hear some jets overhead and see that they have dropped bombs on the city and they know that the war that just started has ended with the destruction of the city. The guys walk toward the city to help and see what all has happened. Montag continues down the railroads tracks hoping that he will eventually meet up with Faber in St. Louis.
Response: I am really happy that Montag got away. He didn't do anything wrong. Captian Beatty was asking for it. I hope that Montag meets up with Faber and they can get some books printed. I think that life would have been a lot better if they would have allowed books.

Summary: Montag talks to Mr. Faber for awhile discussing what they are going to do to get the books back. Faber gives Montag and ear piece so they can talk to each other without being together. Faber gives it to him because he is too afraid to go with him. Montag goes home and freaks on his wife and her friends. He reads them poetry and they get mad and leave. Montag then goes to work and gives Beatty a book. They go on a call and it is his house. When they get there Mildred runs out of the house with a suitcase, gets in her car, and leaves. Montag can't believe it. He thinks about running but he knows that the dog is around and will get him.
Response: I can't believe that Mildred called Montag in. It was really stupid, because Montag was doing the right thing by saving books. She was stupid to just leave him like that. What are they going to do to get the books back?

He hands the note to the secretary and makes up a story so she will give it to her without reading it. He talks to her for awhile to kill time then walks around the school. He sees some swear words written on the wall and gets mad. He goes to the spot where he told her to meet him and waits for her to come. She is late when she finally shows up and she is carrying a suitcase. She says that she is going with Holden. When he tells her no she gets mad and won't talk to him. He tells her that he isn't going anywhere and that he will take her to the zoo if she will talk to him again. When they walk to the zoo she walks on the other side of the street. As they get to the zoo the more time they spend there the closer she gets to Holden. They come upon a carousel and Phoebe wants to ride it. So Holden buys her a ticket and watches her ride it. He is so happy he thinks that he might cry.
Response: It is a good that he wants to talk to Phoebe before he goes because it tells me that he really cares for her and doesn't want to let her down. Deciding not to go was the best choice he has made since he left school. It shows that he feels a lot better when he feels like crying because he is so happy. He finally made the right choice and it is going to save his life.

He tells Phoebe that he is leaving town to go to Colorado. She gives him the rest of her Christmas money and he gives her his red hunting hat. Holden then sneaks back out of the house.

Catcher In The Rye Chapter 22
Summary: Holden finally gets Phoebe to listen to him. He tells her why he got kicked out and all of the things he didn't like about the school. She tells him that he hates everything and to name something he likes. All he can think about for awhile was the two nuns he met then he says he likes Allie. Phoebe says that that doesn't count because he is dead. She asks him what he wants to do with his life and he says that he wants to be a catcher in the rye. The only adult in a field of rye where little kids are playing. He would stand by a cliff and catch them before they fell off.
Response: Holden has already changed a lot. He is in a much better mood. Talking to Phoebe was a really good idea. The catcher in the rye idea is something that can't happen, it seems more like a dream than a reality. At least he wants to do something that would help others with his life.
